Embroidered Irish linen Napkins
46cm x 46cm / 18" x 18"
The second series of our Herbarium Collection, the design features hand drawings of plants with roots intact. Each set of napkins features 4 plants, a plant embroidered on each napkin. These napkin sets are sold in multiples of 4. The drawings are inspired by a wonderful week spent at the Herbarium in Dublin's Botanical Gardens over ten years ago, drawing and photographing ancient plants.
Excerpt of Jennifer's journal, notes taken during this time while studying embroidery at The National College of Art & Design:
'I have spent time at the Herbarium in the Botanical Gardens in Dublin drawing and photographing dried plants, which have been collected for centuries and are now catalogued and arranged in albums and drawers in accordance with the botanical system of classification. Over a million species are carefully stored here, some as whole, roots intact. There is a sense of the collectors who attentively gathered these plants, their hand written description of where and when the species was found, many dating back around two hundred years. This intriguing connection with the collector is comparable with reading someone’s diary of secret obsession.
The faded writing and fatigued colours of the herbarium conjure an intriguing sense of history and of heritage...'

Washing
All our Irish linen pieces—both clothing and table linen—can be machine washed. Use a gentle cycle with a mild detergent at a maximum temperature of 30°C. Wash with similar colours and avoid using bleach or fabric softeners, as these can break down the fibres.
Treating Stains
For stains, act quickly. Blot (don’t rub) the area with cold water and a mild soap. For tougher stains, a gentle soak or spot treatment before washing can help. Avoid harsh chemicals, which may damage the linen.
Drying
We recommend air drying your linen by hanging it or laying it flat. Avoid tumble drying, as it can weaken the fibres and cause shrinkage over time. Hanging also helps minimise creasing.
Ironing & Steaming
Linen responds well to both ironing and steaming. For a crisp finish, use a steam iron on a high setting while the fabric is still slightly damp. Alternatively, a handheld steamer works well to remove wrinkles while maintaining a softer, more relaxed look—especially for clothing.
With just a little care, your Irish linen will last for years, gaining character and softness
